J.J. Warren to Speak at St. Mark
J.J. Warren will present an informative keynote address about the decision before General Conference as to whether LGBTQ+ persons can serve in ministry in the United Methodist Church. J.J. is a seminary student at Boston University School of Theology, a graduate of New York's Sarah Lawrence College ('19), and a certified candidate for ordination in The United Methodist Church (UMC). After making an impassioned plea for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons at the UMC's top law-making assembly, J.J.'s speech went viral, and his advocacy has been covered by HuffPost, NBC, Brut Media, and WXXI Radio. Joining J.J. for a panel discussion on the issue will be Rev. Elizabeth Brick, Rancho UMC, Rev. Motoe Yamada Foor, Sacramento Japanese UMC and Rev. Matthew Pearson, Elk Grove UMC. J.J.'s first book, Reclaiming Church: A Call to Action for Religious Rejects, was a topic for St. Mark's confirmation class last year. The class was able to have a discussion with J.J. via Zoom. J.J. now travels the world preaching a message of collective forward progress and inclusion.
Cost: The event is free but donations to help cover costs will be gratefully accepted.
