CFMA Education - The Basics of Construction Accounting Class
Learn How Your Jobs are Really Doing and Bridge the PM / Accounting Divide While You’re Doing It. Discover the key processes that make construction accounting unique, including job costing, WIP reporting, over and under billing and the most important elements of a contractor’s financial statements. Attendees who complete this workshop will earn 8 CPE credits in the field of accounting. This CFMA workshop is designed for accounting professionals and other team members, such as owners, estimators, PMs and superintendents, who need a better understanding of basic construction accounting principles. This workshop will discuss the following: Understanding the language of construction accounting Why job costing is the backbone of your financial system Job management and the contract lifecycle: problem solving and controls Effective equipment costing: how to recover costs from your jobs The value of linking project management with accounting Elements of financial statements Fundamentals of revenue recognition Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack is included. Presented by: L.J. Clifford and Rodney H. Barbour L.J. Clifford, Owner & Consultant, Clifford Consulting Ms. Clifford’s experience includes over three decades of construction industry work including strategic planning, surety, banking, financial/accounting, risk management and project management. Clifford also works on mentoring models for the industry including design, implementation, assessment andcontinuous improvement.Ms. Clifford currently serves as a Board member for the California State Contractor’s License Board and as a Commissioner and current Chair for the California Uniform Construction Cost Accounting Commission. Linda also serves as the Treasurer for Transportation California, is a member of the California Chapter of WCOE and is a founding member of the Greater Sacramento CFMA Chapter.Ms. Clifford has a B.S. in Business Management, an MBA in Accounting, graduated from the Construction Management Program at UC Davis and the Advanced Management Program at UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Ms. Clifford holds both A & B General Contractor Licenses as well as a Real Estate Broker’s License in the State of California. Rod Barbour, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer Mr. Barbour grew up in a construction family and at an early age was an apprentice hod carrier and carpenter. Starting with Lawson Mechanical in 1978, he worked as a Project Manager and, since 1985, Mr. Barbour has served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Lawson Mechanical. He has been involved with management and administration of all aspects of the company’s business activities. He is also a Senior Officer and LMC Board Member being responsible for many of the day to decisions that impact operations at LMC. He has given back to the industry by serving on the boards of many industry groups and as an educator of many industry related organizations. The Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
