Auburn Winter Storytelling Festival

Foothill Storytelling Guild presents to the Gold Country communities of California an all day storytelling program titled Auburn Winter Storytelling Festival. The morning starts at 10:30 with children's stories for 90 minutes emceed by a historical character actress and a retired early childhood professor. The rest of the day and into the evening is for adults. At 1:00 Ruth Stotter will teach a two hour workshop titled "The Storytellers Toolbox" where she will teach the skills to free the writers story from the written text and translate it for oral presentation. Later is Open Telling starts at 2:45 where anyone in the audience can stand up and tell a five minute story. Then the Liar's Contest at 4:30 for tall tales and other lies. In the evening starting at 6:30 is two hours of stories told orally by the five featured tellers (including Ruth Stotter) who are professional and regional tellers. Three are members of the National Storytelling Network, an organization that requires the highest standards for their members. The entire day is free because the event is sponsored by the Arts Council of Placer County, the Arts Commission of Auburn and Poets & Writers that is funded by the National Endowment of the Arts.
