32nd Annual Strauss Festival of Elk Grove

Sunday, July 28, 2019, 2:30 AM - 5:00 AM

Elk Grove – The City of Elk Grove and the Sacramento region are preparing for the arrival of “The Pea’utiful Princess” this month, as the Strauss Festival of Elk Grove presents its 32nd annual performance series presented free to the public. This year’s theme is the enchanting love story of the princess and the pea, unfolding through classical Strauss music and the Strauss company of waltz, quadrille and polka dancers.
Nearly 100 dancers and performers, ranging in age from three to 70, will take the stage in gorgeous costumes surrounded by elaborate set design on the Strauss Island amphitheater in Elk Grove Regional Park for four consecutive nights, July 25 – 28, 2019. The annual production draws thousands of spectators every year and is always presented free to the public.
The Strauss Festival is a cultural event not replicated anywhere else in the country, featuring adult waltz and quadrille dancers, a polka troupe of teenagers, and other performers of all ages. Volunteer performers and production staff put in thousands of hours over several months to bring the story to life on stage in late July. This year, the traditional finale of the Blue Danube waltz will have a new twist with an expanded cast of dancers. As always, the amazing costumes and precision moves will dazzle the audience, with the show culminating in an exciting professional pyrotechnics display high above the stage.
For more than three decades, as many as 5,000 audience members of all ages have brought their lawn chairs and blankets to Elk Grove Regional Park each night to be enchanted by the Strauss Festival performances. While many bring their own picnic dinner to enjoy, a variety of food trucks will also be at the venue with food and drink for purchase. There is no admission charge, as the Strauss Festival was always envisioned as a vehicle to introduce and promote performing arts and classical music for all generations who might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy such a cultural event. The only cost is car parking for $10, but many simply park outside the park and walk into the venue.
The promenade of dancers begins each evening at 7:30 p.m., with the actual show beginning at 8:15 p.m., beginning Thursday July 25 and running through Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the outdoor Strauss Island Performing Arts Facility in Elk Grove Regional Park. The Strauss Festival, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is funded solely through grants and donations to provide the performances free to the public.
