The punk/rockabilly band The FleshEaters, in one form or another, have been around since the dawn of Los Angeles punk. They were formed by poet Chris Desjardins -- better known as Chris D. -- in 1977 as an experimental side project. At one time or another, members of several seminal L.A. punk(ish) bands played with him. The classic lineup was the early '80s combo: Dave Alvin (then with The Blasters) on guitar, John Doe (X) on bass, Steve Berlin (then with The Blasters, later Los Lobos) on sax, and percussion duties split between DJ Bonebrake (X) and Bill Bateman (The Blasters). They were the lineup on the band's best-known album, 1981's "A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die." Chris D. went on to form other bands (most notably The Divine Horsemen), as well as several different FleshEaters lineups. The original members reunited briefly in 2006; the classic lineup reunited for tours in 2015 and 2017.
